Quincy Mine Tour
The adventure continues as you approach the portal of the Quincy Mine East Adit (1895). The adit is approximately 15 feet high and 15 feet wide and is lighted for the entire 2000' walk for the convenience of our visitors. On the way to the historic workings that date back to the mid-1860s, visitors will learn about the geologic forces that shaped the Keweenaw, what makes the geology here unlike any other place in the world, and have the opportunity to put their hand on 1.1 billion year old rock. Guides will give an overview on the development of mining practices from the 1850s to 1945, changes in the Copper Country community during this period, and the impact of America's first mineral mining boom on the growth of a nation.
