Interpretive Guides

The Quincy Mine Hoist Association is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the rich industrial and cultural history of the Quincy Mine. At the core of our mission is public education, and our Interpretive Mine Guides serve as the frontline ambassadors in achieving this goal.

Guides lead visitors through engaging and informative tours of the mine’s surface and underground features. This role requires not only a passion for storytelling and history but also strong public speaking skills, a high level of professionalism, and the ability to adapt to varying audience needs. Guides must demonstrate both enthusiasm and respect while interacting with the public and possess the leadership capabilities necessary to manage group dynamics and respond calmly in emergency situations. 

Guides are employed April thru October on a full time basis. Professional resources and training will be provided, with opportunities for continued development.

Gift Shop Manager

The Quincy Mine Hoist Association (QMHA) funds its operations and preservation initiatives primarily through revenue generated by the Gift Shop. As a source of revenue and the first point of contact for many visitors, the Gift Shop must be managed in an efficient manner, fostering an enjoyable, professional, yet creative environment. 

The Gift Shop Manager is responsible for the successful operation of the shop, including staff supervision, inventory management, financial tracking, and vendor relations. The role balances customer service and staff leadership with the administrative tasks required to run an efficient retail environment. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize projects in a dynamic work setting.

Managers are employed year-round on a full time basis. Professional resources and training will be provided, with opportunities for continued development.

Gift Shop Clerks

The Quincy Mine Hoist Association (QMHA) funds its operations and preservation initiatives primarily through revenue generated by the Gift Shop. As the first point of contact for many visitors, the Gift Shop plays a critical role in shaping the public’s perception of the Association.

Gift Shop Clerks are responsible for welcoming guests, processing merchandise and ticket sales, registering tour participants, and answering visitor inquiries. The role requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment. Professionalism and a friendly demeanor are essential, as this position directly reflects the organization’s values and commitment to high-quality guest experiences.

Clerks are typically employed April thru October on a full time basis. Training will be provided and opportunities for continued development offered.

Maintenance Attendants

Preservation is at the heart of the Quincy Mine Hoist Association’s (QMHA) mission. The Association manages a large property with historic sites and structures requiring consistent maintenance to preserve its integrity and provide a safe, educational, and enjoyable experience for visitors.

Maintenance Attendants are responsible for aiding in the upkeep, repair, and improvement of the site’s structures, landscapes, infrastructure, and machinery. This role requires a working knowledge of landscape care, hardware and equipment systems, and a willingness to adhere to preservation standards set by the Department of the Interior and other regulatory agencies.

Maintenance Attendants are typically employed April thru October on a full time basis. Training will be provided and opportunities for continued development offered.
