The Quincy Experience
Take a guided tour of a nineteenth-century copper mine to fully appreciate what was required to produce the copper that fueled the industrialization of our nation.
Each tour takes approximately 2 1/4 hours, allowing plenty of time for questions and discussion.
Approximately 30-45 minutes are spent above-ground with the Largest Steam Hoist ever constructed. Minimal walking is involved during this portion while a general history of the Quincy Mining Company.
Visitors are then led through an Adit, a 2,000 foot-long horizontal tunnel, into Historic workings dating to the 1860s.Guests are highly encouraged to bring a jacket and other appropriate attire for over one hour in a 43° damp environment. It is this temperature year-round in the mine.
Please be aware that this is a walking tour that, in its entirety, requires approximately 1 mile of walking. Since most walking takes place underground, on a surface consisting of wet gravel, guests are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear. Sandals, flip-flops or other open-toed footwear may be hazardous to wear (and are certainly not recommended during winter tours).
*We are able to provide mobility assistance for anyone with limited walking capacities via an underground transportation vehicle. Guests should contact the Quincy Mine Gift Shop prior to booking their tour to arrange for mobility assistance.*
